The Guildhall, Gloucester City Council's top entertainment venue, is celebrating after being rewarded for playing its part in helping the environment.

They have been awarded silver status in the Green Business Tourism Awards.

The assessors said that although operating out of an older building much had been done to reduce energy and water impacts.

The team keep a detailed file of all the measures they are taking and actions include the use of low energy bulbs, insulation, draught seals and water reduction methods in the recently refurbished toilets.

Their 'green message' is communicated well through publicity and these actions are reinforced by the use of ethical products in the restaurant.

Council Leader Paul James said: "The Guildhall is one of the top entertainment venues in the county. It attracts a lot of visitors and it is important to demonstrate to them that we take our environmental responsibilities very seriously.

" Winning this award is recognition of the effort made by all of the staff. We will now be looking closely at the recommendations made by the assessors to see how we can go on and aim for gold."
