AS Roger Clifford holds baby Archie in his arms, he knows that if it wasn't for two police officers, he would not be here to see his first grandchild.
Roger suffered 19 heart attacks while watching a film at Cheltenham Cineworld in September last year and would have died there and then if not for the quick thinking of two off-duty officers.
PCs Emma Tandy and Kim Durrant sent cinema staff to Fitness First next door to get a defibrillator, which they then used to re-start his heart.
For 15 minutes they took turns carrying out CPR to give him a chance of survival until paramedics arrived to rush him to Cheltenham General Hospital.
Thanks to their speedy reaction, Roger was able to make a full recovery.
And now, as he cradles his newborn grandson Archie, the 61-year-old from Wyman's Brook is full of gratitude to the officers who saved his life.
"If it wasn't for them I wouldn't be here to see Archie," said the retired engineer.
"Words cannot say how thankful I am to them. To be able to hold my grandson and spend time with him is just fantastic."
Archie is the son of Roger's only child Penny, 29, and she and his wife Anna are equally thankful to the PCs.
Anna, 57, said: "We are so grateful for what they did. He would have been a goner without them."
The heroic officers have met Roger and his family since that dramatic night so he could say thank you.
PC Tandy said: "When you see him walking around you realise what we actually did.
"I do wonder what would have happened if we had not been there and whether or not anyone would have been able to step in."
Roger and Anna have thanked the PCs by nominating them for the Echo's Heart of Gloucestershire awards.
Award
Cirencester-based officer PC Tandy and PC Durrant, who is from Cheltenham and works for Thames Valley Police, have been put forward for the public sector award.
Winners will be announced at Hatherley Manor on June 12.
PC Tandy, from Gloucester, has already picked up an award for her bravery in stepping in to save Roger.
She was given the Chief Constable's Commendation last September, which is the highest level of award Gloucestershire police can bestow, in recognition of her actions at Cineworld.
After seeing her husband come within a whisker of losing his life, Anna has now launched a campaign calling for Cineworld to install a defibrillator in all its cinemas.
The company is currently looking into introducing the machines nationwide.
