A HISTORIC footpath near Cheltenham left damaged by wedding traffic is in a "safe condition" highways chiefs have said.
Residents in Sevenhampton complained after the path, which dates back hundreds of years, was torn up by motor vehicles carrying items to a wedding marquee in a nearby field.
David Perkins, whose family hosted the wedding, has promised to make repairs.
However, David Hicks, of Gloucestershire Highways, said he had not broken any rules.
"When a footpath is damaged through misuse, we will work with the person responsible to get it repaired," he said.
"However, in this case the route is a class four highway and therefore motor vehicles are permitted to use it. We inspected this location last Thursday and although not aesthetically pleasing, it was in a safe condition. A further inspection will take place this week."
