FIVE villages got together for a weekend of music, exhibitions and activities to mark the start of the Severnside Summer Festival.

A procession with a parade of old cars and vehicles and children in vintage buses made its way from Arlingham to the famous green at Frampton-on-Severn via Saul, Fretherne and Framilode.

"The weather couldn't have been better," said co-ordinator Judy Halliday. "There's such a lovely variety of events. It's brought people together."

The festival, which continues until Monday, is seen as a showcase for local talent.

Cellist Ruth Spargo from Frampton-on-Severn has returned to the village specially to give a series of recitals.

"She played by candlelight in Saul church as the evening light was fading, it was magical," said Judy.

There is Morris dancing on the green in Frampton today; folk music at the village's Three Horseshoes pub tomorrow; and Ruth Spargo performs cello suite Bach No 6 at Framilode church on Friday.

Saturday sees a country crafts exhibition in St Mary's Church in Arlingham, children's art workshops at Saul church and The Severnside Singers and Frampton Silver Bandperform. For a full programme, visit framptononsevern.com.
