Long may our Princess fit in her local visits

HATS off yet again to our hard working Princess Royal. At the start of what must be an extra busy week for her family, with the 60th anniversary of her mother the Queen's Coronation, Princess Anne gave her time and attention for a good hour to pupils at Brimscombe CofE Primary.

As British Nutrition Foundation patron she chatted gently to the children, putting them at ease with a smile.

The Princess was so keenly interested that she even added to her tour with what I gathered was an unscheduled inspection of raised beds down the school's steep hillside garden.

The purpose of the visit was to launch the first national Healthy Eating Week and what better than for her advisors to choose Brimscombe, the first to win the county's healthy schools award.

The school grows fruit and veg, and of course eats it, and was a prime example of home-grown nutrition.

The Princess has, of course, admitted to being a bit of a gardener herself at home near Minchinhampton.

Yet, with a workload of more than 500 public engagements a year, including foreign travel, it's a wonder she finds time for horticulture at all alongside running her estate and organising horse trials.

But Princess Anne still regularly finds time to fit in local visits which, obviously, always delight her loyal fan base at home. Long may they continue.

To have our very own real royal celebrity right on our doorstep is not to be taken for granted. Especially when she is so genuinely involved as a member of our community.
