A DERELICT Barton Street building was hit twice in the space of a few hours, forcing police to close the road.
The first collision involved three cars at around 11.30pm on Wednesday at the junction with Clement Street.
The driver of a white Ford Transit minibus, a 32-year-old man from Gloucester, collided with a blue Volkswagen Golf driven by a 36-year-old Gloucester man, and a parked white Volkswagen Crafter.
Neither driver was injured and exchanged insurance details before driving off.
A second more serious collision in the same spot happened just a few hours later.
Tim Rendall, who is renovating the building, lives next door.
He was woken up by the second crash at around 2.45am.
"I heard an almighty bang and there was another vehicle, a Vauxhall car had slammed into the front of the building," he said.
"Quite a few people came out to have a look as it was a loud bang.
"There were two fire engines there, they had to cut the gentleman out of the car.
"He looked to be in a very bad way.
"I'm hoping my building insurance will cover the cost of the damage."
The driver was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with neck, chest and back injuries, not considered life changing or life threatening.
Mr Rendall says structural repair work is likely to cost thousands. He is now awaiting a response from his insurers as he hopes to create two flats in the building, currently a shell, and extend his own home next door.
The car damaged brickwork at the front of the building and also an internal gas pipe.
A city council building inspector visited the scene to carry out safety checks.
Police closed the road off between Derby Road and the St James trading estate as a precaution until the gas pipe had been checked and the building secured.
The road reopened just after 8.30am yesterday.
