MOTORISTS are paying tens of thousands of pounds to buy private spaces to avoid parking problems in Cheltenham.
Off-road parking bays are being auctioned off to tempt car owners struggling to find room to park on the town's busiest roads.
It comes after private land was put up for sale for a potential buyer to build a garage or storage area in Hester's Way.
But, whereas previous parking spaces in Cheltenham have been sold for up to £22,000 in more affluent areas such as The Park, the latest space has been put on the market with no reserve, giving interested parties the chance to snap it up below market price.
