THREE tonnes of food waste spilled out from a tanker on the M5 yesterday.
A two-hour operation by firefighters from Gloucester North fire station saw a clean-up operation along the motoroway between Junctions 11a and 12.
The non-hazardous waste spread down the carriageway during the busy period and road sweepers were enlisted as part of the clear up.
A different tanker arrived to take away the rest of the waste.
At almost 11am firefighters and a team from the Highways Agency had completed their clean-up.
They also washed down the surface of the motorway to keep it clear for motorists.
