THIS time two years ago, Graeme and Kerry thought they would lose their youngest child.

But today, Millie will be celebrating her second birthday, much to the surprise of everyone involved in Millie's many struggles in her short life.

She was born with numerous heart problems and after thinking she would not survive at first, she shocked everyone and fought through what seemed like an impossible situation. After a complex procedure carried out by Evelina Children's Hospital in London, one-week-old Millie was diagnosed with six heart defects after her CT scan.

Then, after her surgeries she developed problems in her left lung. Although each of her conditions were critical, Millie, from Coney Hill, proved herself to be a true warrior.

"She's doing incredibly well," said father Graeme "Her last cardiac review in January was superb and she's a lot more active now. She suffered a mini stroke earlier this year in February and luckily that left no damage, we were all amazed I don't know how she keeps doing it."

Millie has spent half of this week in Burnham-on-Sea and returned yesterday ready to celebrate her birthday with family and friends.

"Mills still requires more surgery in the future, but she is no longer viable for it," added Graeme. "For now we're just all enjoying finally having her home after literally bouncing back from death's door.

"We try not to think about what may or may not happen in the future but just lives day by day."
