Groups and organisations looking to stage events in the City over the next ten months could get cash help from the Council.

A total of £10,000 has been set aside to help fund free community activities. Sums of between £500 and £2,000 are available – as long as certain conditions are met.

The events must take place in the city, be free to attend, bring the community together and improve pride in the City.

Examples of the type of events that will be considered are:

·An activity that showcases Gloucester's heritage or helps promote civic pride.

·An event that involves a local community like street parties

·An attraction that will help bring visitors to the City like concerts or sporting events

·The celebration of special dates or anniversaries.

Council Leader, Paul James, commented: " This is an exciting opportunity for many community groups and local organisations. Many of them often have great ideas of things they would like to do and are prevented by the lack of comparatively small amounts of money.

" This Events Grants package is aimed at kick starting a programme across the City that will be fun and free to attend. It will help bring communities closer together and will demonstrate many of the things that are great about Gloucester."

The closing date for applications is June 30th, 2013.

Full details and an application form are available from the City Council website at www.gloucester.gov.uk
