Police had to shoot an out of control Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog in Hester's Way last night.
The dog had killed another Staffie and injured the owner during the incident on Welch Road at 6.35pm.
The owner of the dogs, a 33-year-old man, suffered injuries to his hand and leg while trying to separate the dogs which were fighting in the garden.
He was taken to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol for treatment.
A police statement said: "One of the dogs had killed the other and due to their actions officers were concerned the surviving animal would cause further serious harm to other members of the public and as such the animal was destroyed."
