AS brave mum Kelly Owen ran in a charity race this weekend, there was one person in her thoughts all the way.
The 36-year-old from Bishop's Cleeve took part in the Bristol 10k at the weekend to raise money in memory of her daughter Abi, who died after suffering a brain haemorrhage earlier this year.
She was joined by a team of 24 friends and supporters running in memory of the 12-year- old Cleeve School pupil, with many of them running in blue T-shirts emblazoned with a photo of her.
Cheering them on was Abi's father Mark as well as little sister Jenny, 10, and brother Joe, five.
And despite energy-sapping temperatures, she completed the course in just over 57 minutes.
Funds raised by Team Abi will add to an appeal in aid of Bristol Children's Hospital, where the youngster spent her last moments.
Kelly said: "It was a really good day. I had been a bit nervous about it as you don't know how you are going to feel but there was a really positive atmosphere.
"A lot of the runners were there to run for someone close to them and I think it helped spur everyone on.
"That's certainly how I found it.
"I was getting tired about halfway through but just thinking about Abi kept me going."
Abi's death on February 10 led Kelly and Mark to set up a fundraising appeal in her memory, with money going to the Wallace and Gromit Appeal in support of Bristol Children's Hospital. An incredible £15,000 has already been raised with donations still flooding in.
After finishing the run, Kelly posted photos on Facebook, including one particularly poignant one of her finishing medal next to a photo of Abi.
She wrote: "Thank you so much to everyone who ran with me in Abi's memory. I was honoured to share today with you all. I'm so pleased the day went well, Abi would be very proud of us."
