GRANDMOTHER Claire Burke has been the victim of a sick graffiti attack on her Abbeydale home.

The 78-year-old woke on Sunday morning to find paint daubed on her house and new Mitsubishi car.

The words 'grave robber scum' were splashed across her property.

Mrs Burke was convicted last month of trashing the grave of a woman and her day-old granddaughter, swapping fresh flowers for dead ones and leaving it strewn with gravel.

In the graffiti attack on her home this weekend, a CCTV security camera trained on the front door was blacked out by spray paint.

"I was shocked when I saw what had been done," she said.

"Police have checked the images and they are blank.

"A dog walker knocked on the door and said: 'have you seen your house and car?'

"I've only had the car a month. They couldn't get around the back as the gate was locked. I am well alarmed here."

Mrs Burke admitted harassment after being caught on a secret camera vandalising the grave of Jill Wilks and her granddaughter Hayley Reynolds.

Jill's widower Ron, 77, spent £150 on surveillance kit to catch her in the act.

Cheltenham Magistrates' Court heard how she pulled up live flowers and "planted" dead ones in flower holders at the burial plot at Coney Hill Cemetery.

She was given a conditional discharge for 12 months and a two-year restraining order prohibiting her from contacting Ron or his fiancee Doreen Royals and from visiting the graves.

"I know what I did was wrong, I accept that," said Claire.

"But it is not the end of the world. I didn't dig anybody up or hurt anybody. I've been threatened in the street and at Morrisons, I have told the police.

"I don't think about the threats. I live one day at a time, I'm nearly 80. The police were very good, they were here in 10 minutes."

Yesterday, Mr Wilks said: "It is shocking to hear that somebody would do something like that and I am very sorry for Claire."

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward by calling them on 101, quoting incident number 120 of May 5.
