The 21 year old dominated the match and completed a comfortable 13-3 win with a session to spare.
He becomes the second Welsh debutant, in as many years, to reach the quarter-finals after Jamie Jones also accomplished this feat last season.Thailand's Poomjaeng has entertained the Crucible crowds with his antics on the table but looked out of sorts throughout the match on the back of his famous win over Stephen Maguire in round one.White took control of the match in the first session as he surged into a 7-1 lead making breaks 65 and 101.
Bizarrely one of the frames was settled by the three miss rule.
Bridging over the blue with the spider Poomjaeng failed to hit any balls on three successive attempts which subsequently handed the frame to White. The youngster, from Neath in South Wales, took the opener of the session before knocking in a break of 71 to move 9-1 ahead. Poomjaeng won the next before White took the next two including a break of 83 that put him within two frames from victory. And despite the Thailander taking frame fourteen, White calmly knocked in a break of 73 and finished with a break of 103 to ensure an early victory.
He will now be looking forward to see if he plays either Ricky Walden of Gloucester's Robert Milkins in the quarter-finals.2005 world champion Shaun Murphy joined the Welshman in the last eight after a hard fought 13-11 victory over Graeme Dott.
