After scoring with Ackertac on the first day, the father-and-son team from Guiting Power struck again with Tara Rose in the EBF/Thoroughbred Breeders' Association' Mares' Novices' Chase Finale yesterday.
Tara Rose swept to the front after jumping the last fence and quickened clear to score by three-quarters of a length for Sam's 84th winner of the season.
"She jumped away and travelled very well – she really enjoyed herself," said Sam. "She's won over two miles and she's got bags of speed and it was a case of reserving it for as long as possible."
Fergal O'Brien, former head lad at Twiston-Davies' stable, saddled his first Cheltenham winner since taking out a professional training licence in the summer of 2011 when Down Ace stormed to an easy win under Timmy Murphy in the Endsleigh Insurance Mares' Bumper.
Jason Maguire hailed the bravery of Donald McCain's five-year-old after she outbattled hot favourite Ma Filleule, ridden by Barry Geraghty, in the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Mares' Novices' Hurdle, despite making a jumping mistake in the closing stages.
"She's done it well," said the Birdlip-based rider. "She dug deep after 'missing' the last hurdle, and I'm delighted with the way she stuck head down and tried all the way to the line."
Maguire and McCain completed a double with Grouse Lodge in the Nicholson Holman Novices' Limited Handicap Chase.
Champion jockey AP McCoy was taken to Gloucestershire Royal after being injured in a fall from Quantitativeeasing in the Barbury Castle International Horse Trials Handicap Hurdle, won by Dursley-based owner Terry Warner's Big Easy.
Cheltenham Racecourse communiciations manager Andy Clifton said McCoy was conscious and could move his arms and legs.
Tom O'Brien sprang a 16-1 surprise aboard Life Of A Luso for trainer Paul Henderson in the Goldsmiths Handicap Chase, while Big Time Billy made it two wins in a row for trainer Peter Bowen when landing the OLBG.com Mares' Handicap Hurdle under Donal Devereux.
Kieron Edgar steered Anay Turge to victory in the Sporting Agenda Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Chase for trainer Nigel Hawke.
The only remaining meeting at Cheltenham this season is the Hunter Chase Evening for amateur riders on May 1.
