DAVE Lewis will have a big impact on the young Cinderford squad, according to director of rugby Andy Deacon.

The Gloucester scrum-half has signed for the Foresters on a dual registration deal and goes straight into their squad for the National One trip to Esher tomorrow.

With regular nines Sam Arnott and Dave Pointon injured, former Cherry and Whites prop Deacon says everyone will benefit from the switch with Lewis gaining valuable game time.

"Dave knows quite a few of the Cinderford boys so he has a good understanding from the off," said Deacon.

"I believe that Dave will provide a great role model to some of our younger scrum-halves in the United and Stags squads, and help fast track their development and progression.

"The timing is more than perfect for Dave to come on loan to us because we have injury doubts to Sam Arnott who knocked his ankle last weekend.

"We have a tough fixture this Saturday at Esher and it will be a battle to secure our first away win of the season."

Lewis has started just once this term and Cinderford enjoy a close partnership with their Premiership big brothers with a number of players moving in both directions in recent times.

The Dockham Road side have provided a handful of personnel for the Gloucester A side and in the past Freddie Burns, Henry Trinder and Shaun Knight gained valuable experience at Cinderford.

The 23-year-old Lewis trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Tuesday night, with Gloucester defence coach Paul Moriarty casting his experienced eye over the squad.

Moriarty has agreed to come back and take more sessions in the future and Deacon said his players took a lot of benefit from the session.

"Our relationship with Gloucester goes from strength to strength and having Paul as our guest defence coach every other week now steps up our game and raises the bar," added Deacon.

"We are all pleased to welcome him to Cinderford to work alongside our coaches Dave Pointon, Lee Fortey, Paul Morris and Isiah Young and it's great for the players to be able to benefit from his vast experience."
