Cheltenham Town: Baker wants home atmosphere at Exeter game

CHAIRMAN Paul Baker has called for Cheltenham Town fans to travel in their numbers and make Saturday's match at Exeter City feel like a 'home' fixture. The Robins' penultimate League Two match of the season will go a long way towards deciding their fate, with an automatic promotion place still up for grabs. In contrast to their outstanding form at the Abbey Business Stadium, Cheltenham have struggled on the road this term and Baker asked manager Mark Yates if there was anything he could do to help in the build-up to the game such as a team-building activity. All Yates wanted was for as many Robins supporters as possible to make the trip to Devon. The club have therefore laid on free coach travel to St James Park and Baker is hoping to see between 750 and 1,000 packed into the away sections as Cheltenham make their first visit to Exeter for more than a decade. "We still have a great shout of automatic promotion and it we can take anywhere near 1,000 fans to Exeter it would be tremendous," Baker said. "I'd like to thanks Marchants Coaches, who have been very supportive with their pricing and now I'd urge fans to take up this offer and travel down free and enjoy the day. "It's not a bad trip to Exeter and all Mark wanted was for a great turnout and if we can get the result we need it would set things up nicely for the final day of the season at home to Bradford City." Baker praised Yates for already securing the club at least a play-off place this term for the second successive year. But having said last season he would prefer to go up through the play-offs due to the financial rewards of a day out at Wembley, Baker said he was desperate to see the club claim automatic promotion for the first time since joining the Football League in 1999. "It's already been a fantastic season and for Mark to have guaranteed a play-off place with two games left is a great achievement," Baker said. "But I can assure you everyone at the club is focused on the top three and I am sure there are going to twists and turns in the final couple of weeks of the season. "We wouldn't be putting on free coaches if we weren't dead set on automatic promotion this time and I think there is every chance we can do it." Nearly six coaches had already been filled by the end of yesterday. Anyone wishing to travel can book their place by calling 01242 573558 (option one), or visiting the ticket office between 10am and 4pm today, or 10am and 6pm tomorrow.
