THERE are already four McDonald's in Gloucester, but now the golden arches are coming to St Oswald's as well.
The popular fast food franchise is planning to build a new drive-thru takeaway next to Frankie and Benny's restaurant.
If it is given planning permission, it would supersize their current offerings at Westgate Street, Eastern Avenue, Bristol Road and at the Hardwicke roundabout.
At least 65 full and part-time jobs would be created by the outlet.
A McDonald's spokesman said: "I can confirm that we are submitting plans for a new drive-thru restaurant.
"A new McDonald's would bring investment to the area and provide jobs for the community.
"We are excited about the prospect of investing in Gloucester and will be working with the council on our plans."
Health experts have warned that another fast food outlet could be bad news for Gloucester's expanding waistlines.
Fitness guru Laura Milne said: "Gloucester needs a cap on how many of these fast food outlets should be allowed.
"We have only just heard recently the amount of money people are spending on takeaways now.
"It is creating all sorts of problems around diabetes, heart disease and cancers and something has to be done about it.
"Having a fast food outlet on every street corner is just leading people to temptation because we live in a world of convenience."
Nearby resident Nadia Stone, 31, said: "I am concerned about cruisers, noise and safety.
"The car park here is blocked off at night currently. If they are going to lift those barriers then I worry it could become a hang out spot for people, and that can sometimes lead to trouble."
Gloucester City Council confirmed yesterday it had received plans for a McDonald's store but was awaiting some missing details. That means deciding on the plans will be delayed until the applicant can provide additional information.
A separate plan for illuminated signs, including the Golden Arches sign seen the world over, has already been submitted and is under consideration.
