Gloucester boy band singer Nathan Sykes of The Wanted has spoken of his horror at the Boston Marathon blasts.
The 19-year-old took to Twitter last night along with his fellow band members to send their thoughts and prayers to the victims.
Three people have so far been confirmed dead and a further 100 are injured, some seriously. An eight-year-old child is understood to be among the fatalities.
Around 375 British runners are estimated to have taken part in the marathon but there has been no confirmation of any UK casualties.
Last night Nathan, a former Ribston pupil, tweeted using the hashtag #Prayforboston, branded those responsible for the blasts as 'sick.'
Two explosions rocked the marathon just as runners were crossing the finishing line. They occurred just before 3pm local time and went off within 100 metres of each other near Copley Square. Jo Thayer, 26, from Gloucester Running Club offered her condolences and said: "It's sad that the Boston marathon was ruined for innocent runners who had trained hard to be there. From now on the process for starting the marathon will be much slower, probably with bag checks. I would be anxious if I was running the London marathon but runners musn't worry otherwise no-one would leave the house." President Barack Obama said the explposions were the work of an individual or a group and vowed to track them down. "We will find out who did this. We'll find out why they did this," the President said. Actor Simon Pegg, actress Liz Hurley and Gloucester Rugby player Freddie Burns also joined the tributes last night:Watching the news. Still can't understand what sort of sick human could create such awful circumstances at such a great event #PrayForBoston
