SPARKLING new independent store Poppy and Harry's will open its doors today.
Denise Kirby has traded in her Eastgate Market stall for her own shop on Westgate Street.
The children's store opens its doors today and this afternoon Disney character Minnie Mouse will be around to meet youngsters.
It's another welcome boost for Gloucester's city centre and comes as the revival of the popular night market was also announced by city council bosses.
The market will take place on May 17 from 5pm until 8pm at King's Square.
But today, Denise's new colourful new boutique is brimming with second-hand goods such as clothes, toys, books and baby equipment.
She pays local mums for items they no longer need and re-sells them.
"I realised there was a massive, almost untapped market of supplying families with a cheaper option, namely pre-loved clothes, baby equipment, toys and books," she said.
"Not only was I offering all those items cheaper, but buying from local mums enables them to fund the next stage of clothing and other items for their little ones, so we are recycling too."
Denise was able to step up from her market stall after receiving a £4,500 rent grant from Gloucester City Council along with support for setting up her shop.
Mums with babies will also be able to drop in to her breast feeding area.
Paul James, leader of the city council, said: "This is exactly the sort of business progression we are trying to encourage in the city. We want to support businesses like this all we can."
