TEENAGE athlete Scott Jones is celebrating after smashing world records in the shot put and discus.
The wheelchair-bound 15-year-old from Swindon Village became a world beater at the 5th FAZAA International Athletics Competition in Dubai.
He set a new record for both the F32 shot put and discus event at the games for disabled athletes.
Scott threw 25.05m for the discus event, destroying the previous 22.30m word record.
In his shot put the teenager threw 11.71m, surpassing the previous world record of 10.69m.
The triumphant Cleeve School pupil, who lost all sensation in both legs earlier this year, had to be reclassified in a different category in both events after starting to use a wheelchair in January this year.
This followed him suffering three stroke-like attacks.
Scott said was delighted to have bounced back from his problems to become a world beater. "I was really surprised when I saw the record on the board," he said.
"When I threw the distance, and I saw it recorded on the board, it just flashed world record quickly.
"I asked to them to re-check it, and they did, and it came up on the sign with the distance."
Scott said he still couldn't believe he was a world record holder.
"It really hasn't sunk it yet, to be honest," he said.
"You don't really think you will be a world record holder, not when you are 15 years old. It was quite weird, actually, when I was standing on the podium and saw my mum in the crowd.
"Everyone wanted an interview, or wanted to shake my hand, or wanted to speak to me.
"When I got the second world record it was a dream.
"People came up to me to shake my hand, I was on national TV and people wanted to interview me.
"I had some time off after I returned, but when I came back to school everyone was really friendly and wanted to see the medals.
"The school has been really good, and they are really flexible with my schedule to allow me to go to Dubai and to go different places to compete. They have been really helpful."
His mum Liz paid tribute to the "hard work" of her son.
She said: "It was lovely. When I saw him on the podium, I was very proud.
"The world records proved he can do anything and he has done this a few times now. I couldn't believe it when I saw the world record, it's amazing."
