BARONESS Thatcher was "a giant in politics" whether people agreed with her or not, according to a Gloucestershire peer.
And while the former Tory Prime Minister was a polarising figure, Baroness Royall of Blaisdon deplored the holding of parties celebrating her death.
She branded them "wrong and in bad taste".
The Labour leader in the Lords was speaking as Parliament was recalled so MPs and peers could pay tribute to Lady Thatcher.
The longest-serving Prime Minister of the 20th century and the first female premier was a "truly remarkable woman," said Baroness Royall.
But having "burst through the glass ceiling", the Labour peer said Baroness Thatcher had failed to help other women follow in her footsteps.
And she did not seem to get the "devastating impact of her policies on too many communities" argued Baroness Royall, who expressed sympathy to the family.
