A TEENAGER suspected of stealing a car suffered a fractured leg and had to be cut free from the vehicle after he tried to escape from police.

The 17-year-old was arrested following a car chase in Cheltenham in the early hours of this morning.

Shortly after 3.10am, officers received reports of two men acting suspiciously in a car in the car park on Springbank Way, which then drove away.

Officers attended but the driver failed to stop, which led to a short pursuit.

Just a couple of minutes later, in Dunster Gardens, the driver and passenger attempted to jump from the slow moving car.

One of the men ran from the scene but, in exiting the car, the other man became trapped between the vehicle and a fence.

Officers called the Ambulance Service and Fire and Rescue Service and the 17-year-old was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for injuries to his legs.

The injuries were neither life threatening nor life changing.

Following medical treatment, the teenager was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft. He currently remains in police custody.

A search for the second occupant of the vehicle has been carried out, but no one was found.

The car, a silver Ford Focus, is believed to have been stolen from a home in Wilson Drive in Cheltenham.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to contact Gloucestershire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 39 of April 9.
