Brimscombe and Thrupp celebrate as they are almost certain to be crowned champions

Brimscombe and Thrupp 3 Purton 2 After leading Hellenic League Division One West from the start in August, Brimscombe and Thrupp have almost certainly won the championship. The only team to catch them, Wootton Bassett, have such an inferior goal difference, that only a miracle could see them do so. Brimscombe and Thrupp's last home league match on Saturday before a record crowd against Wiltshire opponents Purton saw them snatch the three points needed, But it was a tense occasion, the visitors nearly spoiling the party by taking the lead in the seventh minute. But the home side showed great spirit in fighting back. Mike Beckingham equalised in the 15th minute with a right-foot shot. Both teams went close to adding to the scoreline but the Lilywhites were far more creative and pacey down both flanks Brimscombe went in front in the 60th minute when a Ben Prictor corner found James Tubb who headed his team in front. Beckingham went on one of his mazy runs outwiting several defenders and captain Mishey Green drove in his cross to make it 3-1 in the 75th minute. Purton were not finished Marcus Hall volleying in a brilliant goal in the 80th minute but Brimscombe held on for an historic victory and almost certainly the title.
