CIVIL servants in Gloucester were among thousands to walk out of their work place in protest against pension cuts and changes to working conditions today.(Friday)
Almost 250,000 members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) took part in a 'long weekend' of walkouts as part of a three-month campaign over cuts to pay, pensions and conditions.
Civil and public servants working in most government departments and agencies were on strike from 1pm.
In Gloucester over 100 PCS members working at Land Registry, together with members at the Job Centre and at Imjin Barracks in Innsworth took part in the half day walk-out.
Hugo Wilson, PCS Secretary at the Gloucester Land Registry Branch, said: "We are striking because of the Government's austerity measures are hitting the public sector workers.
"Around 100 workers have walked out at the Land Registry offices, the support for the campaign against these cuts shows how strongly people feel about these unfair measures."
The union has asked for talks over cuts to civil service pay, pensions and terms and conditions, but the government is refusing to negotiate.
