Jonjo O'Neill today announced stable star Albertas Run has been retired after being pulled up at the Cheltenham Festival.
Now 12 years old, Albertas Run has been a huge favourite at O'Neill's Gold Cup and Grand National-winning stable in Temple Guiting over the past eight years.
He won 15 of his 36 races and earned £900,000 in prize-money.
Albertas Run gained his first Festival success in the 2008 RSA Chase over three miles, before winning the Ryanair Chase in 2010 and 2011 over two and half miles.
Second in the race last year, he was pulled up by his regular rider AP McCoy when bidding to win the Ryanair Chase for a third time just over a fortnight ago on his first run of the season.
Following talks with owner Trevor Hemmings since the Festival, O'Neill said it had been decided Albertas Run would not race again.
"He went to Cheltenham in good form, we felt, but it just didn't happen for him and it's time to call it a day," he said.
"He's been a super horse for the yard, absolutely fantastic. He's been brilliant and we want him to have good retirement and he's gone out safe and sound."
