Mythe Bridge in Tewkesbury will be closed for vehicles today as the historic structure undergoes preservation work.
The £60,000 work to the prestigious bridge will attempt to sort out the drainage problems, which threaten the future of the 188-year-old structure.
It carries traffic out of Tewkesbury on the A438 over the River Severn. Gloucestershire County Council has been carrying out engineering work since March 11.
It will be closed to vehicles for five days from today, with diversions set up using the A38 and B4211. Pedestrian access will remain in place.
The structure was designed by the famous British road, bridge and canal builder Thomas Telford, was built in 1825 and is grade two-listed.
