Suicide Centre in Cheltenham : A Different Approach

Suicide Crisis is a new charity that is opening a Suicide Crisis Centre in Cheltenham in the Autumn of 2013.

The Centre will be open to anyone in Gloucestershire who is suicidal.

A small team will build up trust with clients, offer continuity of care and have an approach based on empathy, kindness and care.

Although the charity places a strong emphasis on well-trained staff, the personal qualities of the team members are very important.

The charity is responding to feedback from local people about medical services for people who are suicidal. Within NHS Crisis Support, you may see a number of different people, and it may be difficult to have continuity, or to build trust. Crisis intervention services are usually short-term - between 2 and 4 weeks - so the Suicide Crisis Centre will provide support for the long term.

Suicide Crisis is looking for some additional volunteers to support people who are suicidal. The level 2 counselling skills qualification would be helpful, or relevant experience, but the charity welcomes applications from people who may have relevant personal experience, too.

The charity was very pleased to have sponsorship from a local firm for their website, and hopes other local companies will be interested in providing sponsorship.

You can contact the charity via their website:
