UNBREAKABLE Kingsholm identity will take another year to cement, believes Nigel Davies.
Clear, simple, fast and effective – that's leadership and communication the rugby way.
And Gloucester rugby director Davies wants the Kingsholm fighting spirit to be just as quick to the core.
Boss Davies, analyst Rob Thirlby and specialist lineout coach Alex Brown addressed an audience of businesspeople at Kingsholm this week, on themes and strains of leadership.
All three had two chief common theories – that clarity of vision and message – but also that concrete collective character.
Kingsholm chief Davies thinks Gloucester will continue to hone and shape their identity over the next year.
Just as the world instantly understands the All Blacks jersey, so Davies wants the public to picture Cherry and White.
"Humility is vital, and it's not about saying what you are – it's about behaving that way consistently," he said. "You can create your own identity.
"I asked a group of people at a similar talk what word they would use to describe Gloucester this year, and they said 'resilient'.
"That's great, because that's what we want as a basis – but we did not use that word until we felt we had earned the right.
"This Gloucester team, we never give up, we give everything we've got.
"When Wales beat England in Cardiff to close the Six Nations, that day they would have beaten almost anyone.
"There were signs lining the Wales team bus' route to the stadium reading 'Our championship, our stadium'.
"The atmosphere, the passion and intensity all built them up, it was incredible.
"You've got to create an aura."
