Bishop's Cleeve residents win four year battle for double yellow lines

PARKING misery for residents in Bishop's Cleeve could come to an end after a four-year battle for double yellow lines.

Residents have been complaining about employees from nearby firm Capita parking cars along Meadoway, Meadow Lea and The Holt.

They claimed problems first began in September 2008 when Capita took over half of the Zurich building off the A435.

They have been working with county councillor Ceri Jones (Cleeve, LD) to find a solution and ease staff parking for the last four years.

Plans proposed by the county council in October 2012 were changed after residents came up with their own suggestions.

Now, the council has come back with a revised plan, including yellow lines throughout Meadoway.

Mr Jones said: "We have been working on this for years. It has gone through a number of changes and the final proposals are now being prepared.

"Any such schemes will not be pleasing to everybody, but they will have the opportunity to make any comments after the council draws up a formal traffic regulation order.

"Many people have mentioned to me the new plans were a good way forward.

"A lot of people have worked hard on these measures and many of the residents have been very helpful in gathering views, and sharing what they think about the proposals. Hopefully these final plans will help the people living there."

Plans will now go to police, ambulance and fire services, before the county council draws up a formal traffic regulation order based upon the proposal.

A spokesman for the police said: "Officers have been actively involved for many years in trying to find a solution to the issue of congested and sometimes obstructive parking.

"We know some residents in the community feel very strongly so we're glad people are being consulted about the matter."

Nobody from Capita was available for comment at the time of going to press.
