FILM Fans are chomping at the bit in anticipation of visiting the latest Gloucestershire venue to show Hollywood blockbusters on the big screen.
And the latest photos of the work carried out by Gloucester Quays cinema developer The Peel Group have given a glimpse of what will be on offer.
To form the large auditoria walls, around nine tonnes of plasterboard - enough to cover two football pitches have been fixed in place by 40 miles of metal studs - enough to stretch from Gloucester to Kidderminster.
Multi-layered walls have been formed to provide the best acoustics possible.
A crane has dominated the skyline in recent months but is due to be removed after lifting 700 tonnes of steelwork in place for the roof.
Work on the new cinema is half-way there and due to open in the autumn.
The Quayside is a £60 million investment by the Peel Group into new restaurants, wine bars and shops with a planned opening this summer.
Work on the new multi-screen Cineworld is due to be finished by November.
Lucia Dedear is a member of the Film Focus group at the Guildhall and is looking forward to a new venue for film.
"It is about time Gloucester had a new cinema," she said.
"Hopefully, it will work well with the Guildhall and complement the films on show there.
"I have lived in Western Australia and small cinemas work well with bigger ones, as long as they show different films. The Guildhall offers something different by showing world and language films and is cheaper than bigger cinemas.
"It is an exciting time for Gloucester with all of the re-generation that is happening.
"A new cinema will make the city more vibrant and attractive to tourists."
The 10-screen fully digitised cinema will cater for 1,600 visitors at a time and is spread across Merchants Road and High Orchard Street.
Richard Rawlings, centre manager for Gloucester Quays, said: "We're delighted to be on schedule for a November opening of Cineworld and look forward to being able to offer a great night out for all the family in this stunning location."
