Tuffley pothole nightmare soon to end

MOTORISTS using a pothole-filled Tuffley road will be doing a double take when the mini-craters are filled in.

Major route Podsmead Road is being transformed by a resurfacing programme due to start around June.

The potholes have become so bad that the road needs to be completely refreshed.

Gloucestershire County Councillor Gerald Dee (C, Podsmead) ordered the work to be done after being inundated by complaints from people who use the popular stretch.

He said: "We have been trying to get something done about Podsmead Road for some time. It is too late for just a few potholes to be filled.

"The work will hopefully start in June and when they do it, they will be solving what is a major concern for this road." The half-a-kilometre section of road will be resurfaced by a road gang from Gloucestershire Highways who are currently in the midst of filling some 15,000 potholes before April.

The announcements come as work is carried out on nearby Tuffley Avenue to remove part of the grass verges.

The work is taking place because motorists have parked their cars on the verges, turning many of them into muddy patches.

Mr Dee said: "In some places, there's now a foot of mud and people have nearly fallen into it. The work that is being carried out should be finished by Easter.

"I know some people don't want it. They want to keep the grass but at the same time we can't stop people parking inconsiderately so something had to be done about it."

Areas around the trees will be planted with flowers to improve the look of the street.

The scheme is being paid for by Gerald Dee's £10,000 pot of money allocated for him to spend on highway improvements in his county council ward.
