YOUNG musicians can have a blast by joining a brass band in Cheltenham.

Leaders of Cheltenham Youth Brass are on the lookout for new members aged between seven and 18.

The group, which meets for regular rehearsals at Charlton Kings Junior School, caters for people of all abilities.

It will be performing a charity concert at the Playhouse theatre this Sunday to raise funds for the Battledown Children's Centre.

Ruth Folkard, who helps to run the band, said: "We are desperately looking to recruit new players.

"Since the cuts in music teachers at state schools, the playing of instruments among young people has taken a hit.

"We want to get people involved in our band.

"We welcome all levels of players from complete beginners upwards and it can be a very rewarding experience."

Matthew Collyer, 17, has been part of the band for the past nine years.

"It has a friendly atmosphere and is a great environment for players of all levels," he said.

Sunday's concert starts at 7pm. To book tickets, call the theatre on 01242 522852.
