WITH tens of thousands of visitors expected to flood to Cheltenham for race week, Cheltenham Borough Council and Gloucestershire County Council are working together to ensure traffic remains smooth.
New traffic orders have been placed to ensure there is minimum disruption as Cheltenham Festival gets underway.
Trevor Gladding, community protection manager for Cheltenham Borough Council, said: "We are working with the county council to ensure that traffic going to and from the festival is managed as well as possible, and that any travel disruption is kept to a minimum.
"We have made some significant changes to the traffic orders in respect of Albert Road, New Barn Lane and Hill Court Road this year, and we hope that this will help keep the traffic flowing."
Jim Daniels, Gloucestershire County Council's parking manager, says: "During race week, Cheltenham sees an influx of visitors, which means there's a lot more traffic on the roads.
"We're working with the borough council to keep traffic moving through the town, getting visitors to the event with minimum disruption."
There will be additional signage around the town centre to help direct people to taxis, buses and toilet facilities. Additional temporary toilets will also be available.
