A fan's view of Cheltenham Town's 3-1 defeat at Burton Albion with Laurie Cleevely:
It was a frustrating defeat on a cold afternoon in Burton just to make it that little bit more sour.
An impressive following of Cheltenham troops were expecting an enjoyable game, but it did not go to plan.
It was a case of the more prolific team getting the goals as we failed to break our duck until added time.
It was pleasing to see Byron Harrison get his first goal and it capped the one of the more promising performances on a pretty uninspiring day.
The formation change gave him freedom along the front line and he tried hardest to pressure and penetrate the back four.
I had no problems with the changes made at the break. Chasing the game, we needed a goal to get ourselves back in it. Jason Taylor and Russ Penn had some of the less memorable appearances they'll have in red and white, so the tactic bringing on the attacking players that were required cannot be faulted.
It was so frustrating to see the third go in. I was hoping Mark Yates would have fired the lads up and they could have come back out fighting to get us back in the game, but it wasn't to be.
The back four weren't with it and I don't think there was enough communication along the back line.
For the first goal Michael Hector just needed a shout, not to panic, be composed. He had no-one around him and stupidly gifted it straight back to a Brewers player and before you know it's in the back of the net. From then on we were always chasing the game and the last thing you want to do against a team who have won their last eight at home is gift them an opener inside 20 minutes.
I can see positives to take from the midfield. Marlon Pack and Sam Deering both worked well hitting good passes wide and keeping possession well at times. We just lack that cutting edge in midfield with a player thriving to create chances winning the ball and feeding Paul Benson over the top or running at the back four and that's why we struggled today.
In my opinion there wasn't enough tenacity to damage Burton and create chances in order to get the opener or equaliser. We need to create more clear-cut chances; it was too often the case of 'so close'. We aren't scoring enough goals and it's simple enough, if you can't score goals, you won't win games.
We need to put it right on Saturday against another high-flying team in Rotherham United. Come on you Robins!
