Bridgwater Town 0
Shortwood United 5
A rampant Shortwood tore through Bridgwater to record their best win of the season in the Evostik Southern League Division One South and West.
Shortwood set about their task from the start with Jake Parrott linking up the play with TJ Bohane, Joey Tustain and Ross Langworthy to great effect.
Man of the match Langworthy in particular played with pace and directness down the wing.
The first 30 minutes were most impressive as chance after chance were created and if Shortwood could be criticised on the night it was for their final shot at goal – although the Bridgwater keeper pulled out several fine saves and clearances off the line became commonplace.
With Shortwood only one goal to the good at this stage – Tustain shooting home after his header (from a Langworthy cross) had been saved – King had to push over a long-range shot as Bridgwater made one of their few attacks.
Any thoughts Bridgwater had that they had weathered the storm were dispelled in the few minutes leading up to half-time as Parrott dispatched a penalty after Tustain was brought down by the keeper and minutes later when Langworthy found himself in on goal and finished well from the edge of the area.
Bridgwater were out early from the half time break and everyone expected Shortwood to settle for their lead but it was not to be as they continued where they left off in the first half and almost immediately started to create more chances.
Two goals for Bohane in quick succession finally finished the game and although 30 minutes still remained Shortwood were content to see the match out whilst Bridgwater were happy to do likewise.
The introduction of Jody Bevan and Andy Hoskins added weight to the attacking prowess on show but the closest Shortwood saw to another goal was a cracking shot from Bridgwater's Jon Vance in the last few minutes which smashed against the bar with Tom King well beaten.
The late dismissal of Bradley Middleton for foul and abusive language ended a sorry night for Bridgwater.
