National sports fashion retailer JD Sports will be moving into the old Internacionale store in The Eastgate Shopping
Centre.
The new store is larger than its current unit and will open on March 11.
JD Sports joins Internacionale in relocating to a new unit in the Centre which, combined with the recent openings of stores such as Marks and Spencer, Auntie Anne's and Barratts at The Eastgate, leaves The Eastgate with a void rate 4% lower than the national average.
A spokesperson for the new Gloucester JD store said: "We are all looking forward to the store opening on Monday 11th. With a bigger and better store we are able to offer our customers even more clothing, footwear and accessories from top brands such as Nike, Adidas, Converse, Duffer, Brookhaven and Sonneti.
"We will also be holding an official opening event on Saturday 16th March which we are really excited about! Customers will be offered the chance to win trainers for a year, it is a great incentive to come and check out the new store. A DJ and JD Promo team will create a real buzz on the day. The new store has also created new jobs, which is another great point."
Centre Manager Jason Robinson said: "We're obviously delighted that JD Sports is relocating to a bigger unit. It's been a really great year for the retailers in the Centre and it looks set to continue throughout 2013. We have a number of redevelopments planned for this year, so we're hoping this one will be just as successful as 2012.
"The number of new stores and store relocations hasn't just been good news for The Eastgate, but also for Gloucester city as a whole. It's great to hear that new retailers are looking to open up in the City and that existing retailers are looking to expand, as it really proves that Gloucester's retail scene is thriving at what is typically a difficult time around the UK."
