A 22-year-old woman was grabbed by a man in Matson as she tried to flee from him.
The woman, from Swindon, was in her car, a black Renault, on Norbury Avenue, last Sunday at 9.10am when the man approached her.
She got out of the vehicle and tried to run away but the man grabbed her before scratching her car.
Police are appealing to the Matson community for witnesses to the assault and criminal damage.
Officers have arrested a 27-year-old local man on suspicion of assault and criminal damage in connection to the incident.
He has been bailed to return to Gloucester police station on March 19.
Witnesses are asked to call Gloucestershire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 134 of February 24.
