A team of young indoor climbers were delighted after their recent haul of podium places in the first round of the BMC South West Competition held in Exeter.
Last Saturday the Warehouse Climbing Squad really excelled themselves by achieving two first positions, two seconds a third and three fourths from the five age categories for boys and girls.
The Squad of nine consists of children aged between 8 and 14 who live in and around the county of Gloucester, with one member travelling from Hereford. They can be seen scrambling up and down the walls of the Warehouse Climbing Centre in Parliament Street, Gloucester every Wednesday evening where they are coached by Cailean Harker and Hannah Brading. The committed bunch have a real passion for a sport they hope will be included in the Olympics and practice 3 or 4 times a week.
Hamzah Kathrada, aged 12, has been climbing for two years since he was introduced to it on a trip arranged by The Friendship Café. Hamzah made it to the National finals last year, which were held in Edinburgh. After this years great start he is hoping to qualify again along with more of his fellow team members.
Team members: Anya Forino, Crystal Hulls, Martha Pembroke, Daniella Mann, Hamzah Kathrada, Tom Frost, Ben Forino, Alex Oates, Roly Foster.
Round 2 is in South Molton on March 16th
