POLICE were out in force last night as many people celebrated their first payday of the year.
Operation Contact saw a heavy police presence in both Cheltenham and Gloucester town centres to crackdown on anti-social behaviour.
Officers had pinpointed the night as being potentially troublesome due to many people drinking heavily after receiving their first pay cheque of 2013 this week.
A police spokesman said 15 drug searches had taken place, with one arrest for possession of a Class A drug.
There were a number of other arrests, with police yet to confirm the exact figures.
There were 16 Special Constables patrolling the streets as part of the operation.
