VOLUNTEERS who helped out with 4x4 vehicles during heavy snow across the county are being hailed as heroes by the NHS.
Around 20 drivers and agencies, including the Environment Agency and Red Cross, helped staff get into work and out to visit patients in cut-off areas.
Hospitals in the county also received help from AM Medical and Great Western Ambulance Service as roads became clogged up with ice and snow.
Director of Service Delivery, Eric Gatlin, praised the efforts.
"We are extremely grateful to all those people and organisations who gave up their spare time to help our staff and patients get to us in extreme weather," he said.
"They provided a professional service and all in good humour to all staff who requested assistance and got staff to hospital in time for their shifts and home again."
