ARCHWAY Sports Centre has moved into the eco-friendly era with extensive redevelopment of the facility's sports hall.
The 14-year-old dual use facility conducted a survey to discover where they can make savings on their energy costs, with the lighting being a major area for improvement.
The school got funding from Gloucestershire County Council to help complete the £11,500 overhaul of the system.
Centre manager James Jeffery said: "The original lights were of a poor quality for modern day standards, producing a light that wasn't sufficient for the activities played in the area. The redevelopment has brought the facility up to the modern day expectations, providing a day light quality to the hall, whilst the running costs significantly change, with a reduction of £4000 per year to run the lights."
Motion detectors now activate the lamps to avoid hours of lighting without use in the hall.
The centre continues to offer facilities for the community, with fitness classes, and hire available for the main hall, dance studio and meeting room as well as New Year offers for the centre's fitness suite.
During January and February memberships are available for £18 per person if you join with a friend, partner, or family member, with deals on student and concession use too.
