GLOUCESTER Prison's imminent closure was met with plenty of shock and dismay when it was announced this month.
And, while we must not forget about the many dedicated and diligent staff whose futures have been plunged into chaos, long term it looks like there could well be positives to be had.
Roberts Limbrick, the Gloucester architects, have been busy creating artist's impressions of what things may look like in a few years' time.
The facilities inside HMP Gloucester have been much maligned and criticised over the years, but where cramped cells sit now, plush offices or even luxury hotel rooms may pop up.
Roberts Limbrick have produced a tantalising glimpse of the possibilities and it doesn't look like the Ministry of Justice will be short of offers for the site going forward.
Let's hope, once the dust has settled and the future is a little clearer, that whatever redevelopment does take place at Gloucester Prison, it will become a real feather in the cap for this city.
It certainly has the potential to.
THE weather is showing no sign of relenting any time soon, with more snow and continued below-freezing temperatures predicted to be with us for several days to come.
The Citizen was inundated with pictures yesterday, several of which you can see on pages two, three and four, as well as many more online.
And they painted two distinct pictures.
One was of the sheer fun that prolonged snowfall brings, the other was of the sheer danger.
Whichever side you are caught up in, please don't forget those in need. The elderly and vulnerable must be remembered at times like this, so pick up the phone or knock on that door and check if there's anything you can do.
