PLANS to slash affordable housing provision at Greyfriars have been approved, saving the £25million development from being binned.
Linden Homes, the developers behind plans for 254 new homes on the former Gloscat site in Brunswick Road, proposed to reduce its offering of affordable homes on the site from 25 per cent to 12.5 per cent.
Fears emerged beforehand that if the suggestion was not agreed to by Gloucester City Council, the entire development would be derailed.
These fears were confirmed at a meeting of the council's planning committee on Tuesday night, when councillors found themselves between a rock and a hard place, eventually agreeing to the proposals despite their grievances.

The huge scheme – which will see 2.4 hectares of land transformed – involves the demolition of the entire site, new homes, green space, an open area in front of the friary, a cafe, office space and a restaurant.
