An "hours old" calf has got stuck in mud near Stroud District Council's offices.
Fire crews were called at about 9.40am today to Ebley Meadows, near to Ebley Mill in Westward Road.
A spokesman from the fire and rescue service said: "One appliance from StroudfFire station attended the incident along with the specialist animal rescue team from Gloucester North Fire Station.
"In total 12 firefighters were mobilised to the incident with Watch Commander Tim Stait in charge. A flexi duty officer was also sent to the incident."
Watch Commander Tim Stait said: "On arrival they found a new born calf stuck in two feet of mud and unable to move. Crews worked quickly to free the calf who was only hours old. Following his ordeal a vet treated the calf for shock but is expected to make a full recovery."
