CONTROVERSIAL artist Damien Hirst is in hot water with the RSPCA.
Hirst, whose workshop is at Chalford, put on a show at the Tate Modern in London which featured live butterflies.
But 9,000 died during the 23-week exhibition.
A spokesman for the animal charity said there would be "national outcry" if it had involved an animal such as a dog.
The Tate told the Sunday Telegraph the butterflies "lived out the final stage of their natural lifecycle" in the room.
