Specialist crews from Stroud were called in to deal with large fuel spillage near Northleach last night.
About 1,000 litres of diesel spilled out of a van parked off the A40.
Firefighters were called out at 11pm yesterday to reports of the problem.
Initially one fire crew of six from Northleach was sent to the incident with Crew Commander Prout in charge.
They confirmed the spillage of diesel was substantial and specialist environmental protection crews were sent from Stroud to assist in containing it.
Gloucestershire Highways were also on scene with Gloucestershire Police assisting.
The Environment Agency was also notified of the incident.
In total the Northleach crew were on scene for three hours and the specialist crews from Stroud for just over two hours.
