Bali prosecutors are calling for a Cheltenham mum to be imprisoned for 15 years after £1.6 million of cocaine was allegedly found in her suitcase.
Lindsay Sandiford could escape the maximum sentence of the death penalty if she is found guilty of selling or facilitating the sale of more than 5g of narcotics.
Indonesian legal chiefs have asked for the reprieve because of the 56-year-old's age and her "co-operation during investigations".
Her lawyers have asked for time to respond to the prosecution's demand.
A customs officer previously told the Bali court the drugs were found in the Hester's Way resident's suitcase at Bali Airport in May this year.
A verdict is expected in early January after the next court hearing.
Mrs Sandiford has denied she was trying to sell drugs in Bali, insisting that she had been set up.
She claims she was coerced into bringing cocaine to the island.
The officer previously told the court Sandiford appeared shocked when the drugs haul were found.
The court heard it was as if she was not aware of the contents of the package and said at the time she knew nothing about it.
Sandiford, who was born in Teesside, then moved to Cheltenham in 2007, is at Bali's Kerobokan prison.
She is being held there with three other Britons charged in the case – Paul Beales, Julian Ponder and Rachel Dougall.
Dougall was sentenced to one year in prison for failing to report a crime.
Meanwhile Beales was sentenced to four years in prison for possession of drugs, while the trial of Ponder has been postponed.
Prior to the case, Sandiford argued she was carrying the suitcase under duress.
She told newspapers her youngest son Eliot, 21, and a former student of Coln House School in Fairford, was being threatened by a drugs gang.
She previously admitted her and her sons, who both played rugby for Cheltenham, were the "neighbours from hell" while they lived in the town.
She is understood to have left Cheltenham after living at both Loweswater Road and Princess Elizabeth Way and moved to India.
Eliot was a pupil at the Fairford school after he was expelled from Bournside School in Cheltenham after being suspended 16 times.
