Thief returns Xmas tree with a note to say sorry

A thief racked with guilt is thought to have returned a Christmas tree just days after it was stolen.
Katrina Gribbon was devastated when her £200 topiary tree was taken from the porch of her Bay Tree Road home at the weekend.
But on Monday night the tree was returned with a note – presumably from the thief – which read: "Sorry about the tree, Merry Christmas x".
She said: "I'm really surprised. I couldn't believe it when I saw that it had been put back in my porch with a note carefully tied to it.
"I'm intrigued to know who did this and why they returned it. Did they feel guilty? Or was it a prank?"
But her neighbour Sarah Williams was not so lucky.
She had her flashing snowman and flashing penguin stolen on the same night but they haven't been returned.
She said: "The actual cables were cut and unfortunately I do not have the ends of the cables as the bin collection was today.
"I spoke to Katrina and luckily the thieves returned her items but it's too late for mine."
