Fire safety checks have been made at stores in Gloucester to keep people safe this Christmas.
Officers from Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Gloucester City Council visited more than 20 stores and the majority were found to be of a good standard.
A few minor safety deficiencies were found and dealt with by fire safety officers at the time.
Officers were checking exit routes were clear, fire alarm systems in good working order and that all staff have had the correct fire safety training.
Christmas is a good time of year for businesses to review their fire risk assessments and ensure combustible materials, such as rubbish and cardboard from deliveries, are disposed of safely.
Jon Hall, chief fire officer, said: "Christmas is an important time for many people, not least for shops and businesses that rely on the festive period to provide a welcome boost in trade.
"Whilst Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service understands this, we will not accept any compromise on safety of the public in the interests of making a few extra pounds."
Councillor Will Windsor-Clive, cabinet member for communities, said: "At this time of year, shops often have more stock than usual, so it's especially important for businesses to ensure fire exit routes are kept clear of all stock.
"A lot of shops also have temporary staff and they must have the right fire safety training, just like their permanent colleagues."
The Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 can be enforced if serious offences are found to be committed.
